Good question! I'll say H. whitei for now...

This animal lacks the high coronet of H whitei. I'd say its a juvenile H abdominalis but hard to say at this size.

@sascha_schulz I showed this photo to Dave Harasti from NSW Fisheries at Port Stephens as I was uncertain what it was ... he thinks it's a juvenile H. whitei with coronet either bitten off or deformed.

@sascha_schulz I thought it may be H hystrix ... the H abdominalis doesn't seem to have the spikes around the eyes Also just going on my record ... I can't seem to be able to find any other seahorse ... so if I find a seahorse ... it's a H whitei
